The Prosecutor's office in the city of Plovdiv on October 12 released more information about the fraudulent scheme involving identity theft and taking out of loans in the name of other people.
The perpetrators misled people into believing that they wanted to take pictures of them for cartoons and photo collages. They also took photographs of identity cards. The victims were classmates of the perpetrator, said Atanas Iliev, deputy district prosecutor.
In the scam, a couple from Stara Zagora deceived three of their friends and took out 9 bank loans in the name of the friends to the amount of 90,000 BGN. The scheme involved stealing the identity of each of the victims.
From the couple's home in Stara Zagora, investigators have seized numerous flash drives, mobile phones and an expensive car, which is being checked to see if it was bought with money from the loans. Most of the money was spent on gambling.
