A second day of protests by road construction workers, who said they plan indefinite strike action until their demands are met.
Road construction workers begin indefinite strike from July 27
They are demanding that they be paid for the work done and that there be indexation on construction contracts
On July 28, protesters gathered in front of the National Assembly and set up a tent camp, explaining that it was a training centre for the government.
There was also a procession of heavy goods vehicles on the ring road of Sofia. MPs Toshko Yordanov and Stanislav Balabanov came to the protesting construction workers and said that they should look for a solution to their problems in the Ministry of Finance and not in the National Assembly.
"For the problem of payment to the companies, I think it is absurd to find any solution within the remaining hours of this Parliament. Our hope is that after yesterday's legal affairs committee passed the changes to the Public Procurement Act, which will allow to index the activities in the construction sector, at least this will pass in the hall today and tomorrow in the second reading and unblock especially the municipal projects, because there are 10 billion BGN at stake," said Stefan Chaikov from the Branch Chamber "Roads".
"The branch is subjected to genocide. I claim that many bankruptcies will follow if there is no price indexation. A large number of construction companies will go bankrupt," said Zhivko Nedev of the Branch Chamber Roads.
