The strong storm in the coastal town of Pomorie has almost completely destroyed the grape harvest. Nedelcho Kapriev is among the farmers whose production is 90% affected.
A winegrower said he lost 200 acres of grapes. 100 acres of young plantations have also been uprooted.
I have never seen such a thing in my 72 years of life, the damage is yet to be ascertained by a committee, said another winegrower.
The mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Alexiev, on September 19 said that the wind was over 150 km/h, an inter-agency committee was convened together with the district governor of Bourgas, calling on the farmers to submit applications to the crisis maganegement centre. There is the assurance that today three committees will start inspections.
In addition to the grapes, the vines themselves, stakes, facilities are affected. The damage is over 90% for the winegrowers, Ivan Alexiev said.
