The suspects for the fatal shooting of Bulgarian border policeman Petar Bachvarov are Turkish citizens, the Turkish embassy confirmed to BNT on November 8.
Two people have been detained - the perpetrator of the shooting and his accomplice, whose nationality initially was not determined. The Bulgarian and Turkish authorities are working in full cooperation and the version of migrant smuggling is currently being investigated.
Only the Turkish Ambassador Aylin Sekizkok commented on the tragic incident. She said that the investigation by the Turkish Prosecutor's office had already started and that a large team was at the border working on all possible versions. However, she said it had to be clarified whether this was indeed a shooting during smuggling of migrants.
