A woman died in a serious accident between a van and a lorry in the area of the Danube Bridge near Rousse. Traffic of heavy goods vehicles was temporarily stopped and traffic of cars was diverted to a detour route through the village of Nikolovo.
The incident happened around 4.00 this morning, September 26, on the road between Rousse and the nearby town of Marten. According to initial information, the van was travelling in the direction of Silistra when it crashed into the trailer of a stopped heavy goods lorry.
The 21-year-old driver was taken to hospital with a head injury. The third passenger had injuries and refused to be transported for examination.
The driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. Because of the accident, the cars were taking a detour route. Kilometre-long queues of vehicles were formed, which blocked the entrance to the village of Nikolovo for hours.
Later today, the mayor of Rousse called a meeting of representatives of the relevant institutions again.
"This is intolerable and the energy for change is very strong in me. I expect the start of the construction of the large parking lot very soon and I will demand shorter deadlines from the builder," said Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov.
The car park is expected to accommodate about 700 heavy goods vehicles, which instead of stopping on the roadway can wait their turn without interfering with other traffic in the area of the border crossing.
