Bulgaria’s President, Rumen Radev, on October 17 held a videoconference with President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in the framework of the preparations for the upcoming EU summit on 20 and 21 October. Bulgaria will be represented by Rumen Radev at the European Council meeting in Brussels. Before the meeting, the European Commission is expected to propose specific measures to tackle the energy crisis, the head of state's press secretariat said on October 17.
In the course of the talks, President Rumen Radev pointed out that against the background of deepening economic and social instability, it is important to ensure energy security for the citizens and businesses in the EU for this winter’s heating season.
In the coming critical months, it is necessary for the countries to maintain their energy autonomy and to have the opportunity to make optimal use of their own energy resources in line with the current European requirements, the Bulgarian Head of State said.
Rumen Radev briefed Charles Michel on the checks undertaken by the Bulgarian institutions and services in order to refute the speculations linking Bulgaria as an accomplice to the Crimean Bridge explosion. The Bulgarian state has rejected all false allegations about this attack, the President added.
