Council of Ministers approved the establishment of a rehabilitation hospital in Bansko

The Council of Ministers on October 30 approved the establishment of a Specialized Hospital for Rehabilitation and Continuous Treatment -,"Boyana Med" Ltd., in accordance with the statutory procedure for this purpose in the Medical Institutions Act.

It is envisaged that the new medical facility will be located in the resort town of Bansko, with an extremely favourable geographical location - at the foot of the Northern Pirin Mountains, with the presence of a number of warm mineral spas in an area with proven characteristics for treatment and rehabilitation.

The treatment facility will have a total of 280 beds for medical specialties: "Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine", "Nervous System Diseases", "Internal Diseases", "Cardiology", "Pneumology and Phthisiology", "Surgery", "Orthopaedics and Traumatology", "Obstetrics and Gynaecology", "Urology", "Diagnostic Imaging" and "Clinical Laboratory".

The main objective of this project is to provide accessible and high quality medical services, improve the quality of life of patients in need and reduce suffering.

The activities of the physical and rehabilitation medicine departments will provide recovery and rehabilitation of patients after hip or knee replacement, operations after fractures, abdominal surgeries and other post-operative conditions requiring further rehabilitation. The long-term treatment units for internal medicine, cardiology, nervous system diseases and pneumology and phthisiology will provide long-term treatment after the acute stage of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke with residual health problems, as well as long-term treatment and early rehabilitation after surgical interventions of large and very large volume and complexity. Palliative care units will provide a recovery programme to support patients following chemotherapy and radiotherapy to achieve a quality life expectancy in a supportive environment.

The goals are to maximize the stabilization and improvement of patients after the acute phase of treatment, managing the patient's pain and emotional distress.

According to the project documentation, the timeframe for the implementation of this project is up to 54 months from the adoption of the Decision of the Council of Ministers.
