Today, July 7, by letter from the Ministry of Health, we will instruct the regional health inspectorates to issue a recommendation for the wearing of protective masks in healthcare establishments in cities with the highest incidence of COVID-19, the chief state health inspector, Angel Kunchev, told journalists.
The situation with the spread of the infection is relatively calm now, he added, pointing out that a new coronavirus wave starts that will continue, but no one can say "to what heights it will reach," Kunchev said.
In his words, it can be expected that the number of infections will reach a maximum at the beginning of August. In the case of airborne infection, especially the Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5, any measures cannot reduce the spread, but they can reduce its rate, Kunchev added.
Earlier today, data from the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases showed that Sofia-city, the districts of Bourgas, Varna and Vratsa are in the yellow zone in terms of coronavirus infection rates.
