Sixteen rose bushes planted to honour those whose organ donations saved lives

Sixteen rose bushes in memory of the organ donors were planted in the "Donors' Garden" behind the National Palace of Culture on October 18.

The sixteen roses are in memory of the sixteen organ donors in the period October 2023 - 2024, said Dr. Evelina Tsvetkova, Director of the Transplantation Management and Control Directorate at “Medical Supervision”.

The initiative of the Executive Agency "Medical Supervision" aims to pay tribute not only to the donors, but also to their loved ones and is part of the campaign "Yes! For Life". It was attended by representatives of the “Medical Supervision” agency, transplant patients and relatives of donors.

Dimitar Vassilev, who received a kidney transplant two years ago, said that it is very important not to forget that many people are still waiting to receive an organ.

"By donating, your loved one continues to live," Vassilev added.

The Rose Garden was established in 2020 by the Ministry of Health and the Medical Supervision agency, at the initiative of the Respiratory Failure and Lung Transplant Association. Each year, the number of roses that are planted in the garden are equal to the number of donor situations for that year.
