Five people detained in a special operation in Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria
The Chief Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime and the DG “Border Police” disrupted an organised criminal group for transporting illegal migrants during a raid yesterday, June 17, on the territory of Vidin, Vratsa and Montana. The actions of the law enforcement authorities were supervised by the Vidin District Prosecutor's Office.
In the course of the conducted operational and search activity, the police identofied the leader of the group and the involvement of four other people in the criminal network.
According to the investigation data, the participants were engaged in organising and transporting illegal migrants from Sofia region to the border villages of Golemanovo and Kireevo, from where the foreigners crossed into the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
Mobile phones, illegally possessed ammunition and some marijuana were seized during the procedural and investigative actions and searches.
Two of the detainees were charged with an offence under Article 321, paragraph 6, in connection with Article 280, paragraph 6, of the Criminal Code. 1 and paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code, and were detaiend in custody for a period of up to 72 hours.
The investigation is ongoing.
