Europol is in touch with both the European Commission and the Bulgarian authorities to provide full support to the Bulgarian investigation of the incident at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, European Commission spokesperson Anita Hippel said in response to a question by BNT on November 8.
"We are shocked and saddened by yesterday's incident at the Bulgarian border with Turkey. Our thoughts are with the victims and those who have been injured," Hipper said.

A Bulgarian border police officer has been shot dead by an unidentified person at the border with Türkiye.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, November 7, when the border police officer and a military serviceman were jointly patrolling near the village of Golyam Dervent.
The two officers had allegedly found a damage cut in the barbed wire border security facility. They stopped, the border policeman got out of the vehicle and at the moment when the military serviceman also got out, shots rang out.
The 30-year-old policeman was shot and died at the scene.
