GERB-UDF received mandate to form a government, neurosurgeon Prof. Nikolai Gabrovski is nominated for Prime Minister

Prof. Nikolai Gabrovski is the nomination of GERB-UDU for Prime Minister. He accepted the first exploratory government-forming mandate from President Rumen Radev at the Presidency on December 5.

Professor. Gabrovski is the head of the neurosurgery clinic at "Pirogov" emergency hospital in Sofia.

"I expect you to propose within 7 days a lineup of the Council of Ministers that will meet the high public expectations for stability, expertise and responsibility. I would like to state that as the largest political group, your responsibility to form a government is great. I very much hope that the additional time I have allocated for consultations has helped to find a suitable formula for forming a cabinet. I wish you every success," the President said.

It is a duty and a matter of honour for me to make every effort for Bulgaria to have a working government, Nikolai Gabrovski said.

"Unfortunately, Bulgaria is currently at the crossroads of many crises - economic, social, we have a serious migrant pressure. We have an ongoing political crisis for the second year. I will make every effort to propose a cabinet that is further away from political talk, further away from confrontation and closer to the expert, to the professional, so that Bulgaria can more easily get through this difficult historical moment," he added.

The GERB-UDF candidate for Prime Minister has one week to form a government. If he fails - the second mandate will be handed to "We Continue the Change".

Rumen Radev held talks on forming a regular cabinet with all parliamentary groups and expressed hope that within the constitutional procedure it would not come to handing a third mandate.

Nikolai Gabrovski graduated in medicine from the Medical Academy in Sofia in 1996 and in 1997 he started working at the neurosurgery clinic in “Pirogov” emergency hospital.

Since 2006 he has been head of the neuro-oncology department there, and two years later he became associate professor of neurosurgery. In 2011, he was elected head of the neurosurgery clinic at “Pirogov” hospital, and in 2014 he became a professor in the specialty.

Nikolai Gabrovski was a national consultant in neurosurgery at the Ministry of Health. He has specialised in France, Belgium, Germany, in particular in the field of Neuro-oncology and intraoperative MRI.

He has been a member of the Board of the Bulgarian Medical Association for 3 years, and since June 9, 2018 he has been the Vice-Chairman of the organisation. In 2021, he was elected as a corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
