German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on the Republic of North Macedonia to recognise the existence of a Bulgarian community, to adopt the changes in the Constitution and to act for an accelerated EU accession. This happened during an official visit to Skopje on November 30.
In his words, the constitutional change is an important decision for North Macedonia. President Stevo Pendarovski pointed out that his country is prepared for negotiations and that it has been ready for 17 years.
The call comes amid a decision by the authorities in Greece to register a Macedonian Language Centre, which, according to the objectives disclosed on its website, will work for the Macedonian language and traditions, which, they say, is spoken in over 500 villages. These are lands where the Bulgarian language is traditionally spoken - such as Lerin, etc.
