At its regular weekly meeting on Wednesday, November 30, the caretaker Government extended the Ministry of Education and Science BGN 44 million for the purchase of school buses it needs to renew the existing depreciated fleet. This will ensure the safety of children and pupils in settlements where there is no kindergarten or school.
Currently, the Ministry of Education has received numerous requests for school buses. The requests cite the outdated and depreciated buses, their poor technical condition and frequent breakdowns as pressing reasons.
Thirty-four buses were purchased with the BGN 10,000, 000 budgeted for school buses in 2022. With the additional BGN 44 million, appropriate vehicles can be provided to municipalities and schools that urgently need support.
In August 2021, the Ministry of Education and Science announced that buses would be provided as a priority for kindergartens and schools that also serve children from other localities. The allocation also takes into account the number of pupils who do not have transport to educational institutions.
Priority is also given to schools in hard-to-reach locations. Supplies are also tailored to the needs expressed by municipalities, schools and kindergartens.
