The first Ice Park in Bulgaria opens in Sofia on 1 December at 17.30.
The largest ice rink in the Balkans was built by Sofia Municipality, modelled on the one in Vienna.
It is in the Knyazheskata garden opposite Sofia University. The facility is part of the "Sofia - European Capital of Sport" programme.
The whole park is 7,000 sq.m and the ice area is 3,600 sq.m. There are also 500 m long ice lanes and along the whole length there are illuminated frames creating a festive mood.
"From 1 January until the end of the season, children and students from Sofia will skate for free in the ice park from 9.00 to 11.00 and will be taught free of charge by specialists in ice skating. Our idea is to attract more and more young people to practice winter sports in an urban environment", said the Chairman of the Sofia City Council, Georgi Georgiev.
There will also be a Christmas market around the Ice Park so that the landmark space in the heart of Sofia can turn into a real winter fairy tale.
