Ministry of Defence: The decision to provide arms to Ukraine has been submitted to Parliament

The Ministry of Defence has submitted a proposal for the provision of military and technical support to Ukraine and Bulgaria's contribution to the European Union Assistance Mission in Ukraine - EUMAM UA to the Council of Ministers. The Cabinet decision has already been submitted to the National Assembly.

"Pursuant to the decision of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Defence held consultations with Ukraine to coordinate the type and volume of military and military-technical support, equipment and ammunition. The information on the volume and type of assistance is included in a classified annex to the draft decision," the MoD said.

Earlier today, caretaker Minister of the Economy, Nikola Stoyanov, said Bulgaria could provide small arms and ammunition to Ukraine.

The government is proposing that the National Assembly vote on a decision to provide military property to Ukraine on the basis of an agreement to be ratified by the parliament, according to a decision of the Council of Ministers on 30 November.

The Cabinet also approved a draft agreement between the defence ministries of the two countries on the free provision of arms, equipment and ammunition as a basis for negotiations.

The caretaker government also proposes to the Parliament to authorise the participation of the Bulgarian military in the EU Assistance Mission to Ukraine - one staff officer and 5 servicemen to go to Germany and Poland, where the training of Ukrainian servicemen is ongoing, as well as to authorise the stay of up to 60 Ukrainian servicemen on Bulgarian territory for training as combat medics.

Head of State and Commander-in-Chief Rumen Radev commented that if the list is fully ready, it will be submitted to the National Assembly.
