Fifty six people have been detained in a joint operation of the Ministery of Interior and he Prosecutor's Office targeting distribution of drugs. The operation began in the early hours on December 7 across the country on the orders of Ministry of Interior Secretary General, Petar Todorov. The work of the law enforcement agencies continues.
The authorities disrupted two drug greenhouses in raids against illicit drugs trade across the country. Operations continue.
Caretaker Minister of Interior, Ivan Demerdzhiev, said the checks would continue until the level of drug trafficking in the country dropped sharply.
"We are making a very clear and firm sign to those involved in this activity that the state will not tolerate this. It has been a long time since we conducted such a large-scale operation. It is going very well and in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s office. I believe that in other areas there can be such interaction," Demerdzhiev said.
More than 3,000 police, gendarmerie and border police officers are involved in the special operation. More than 150 sites are being checked and so far possession, distribution of drugs and driving under the influence of drugs have been detected.
