Bulgaria can be a regional leader in the development of advanced energy storage systems, President Rumen Radev said on November 7 in Egypt, where he participated in the 27th UN Climate Change Conference. The Bulgarian delegation also includes the Ministers of Environment and Water and Energy.

Implementation of the measures adopted to mitigate the effects of climate change. And the target set in the Paris Agreement - to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees compared to the pre-industrial era. These are some of the topics that will be discussed at the Conference over the next 10 days. More than 100 leaders from around the world are participating in the forum.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the guests, and the official ceremony was held in Nefertiti Hall. In his speech, Guterres called on world leaders to work to reduce emissions, devote more resources to fighting climate change and help developing countries.

"This UN climate conference is a reminder that the solutions depend on us. And the clock is ticking. We are fighting the battle of our lives and losing. Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, global temperatures continue to rise. And our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible. We are on the highway to climate hell, with our foot still on the accelerator," said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

President Rumen Radev noted that the complex geopolitical situation, the war in Ukraine, the energy and economic crisis are forcing some countries to return to fossil fuels. But climate change is also a fact - every year thousands of people die in natural disasters, whole countries are suffering hunger and need help. The Bulgarian President believes that this requires flexible approaches and rational thinking.

"Europe is a leader in high ambitions to move quickly to climate neutrality. This transition needs to be well thought out, smooth and socio-economically fair so that it increases people's well-being. I am looking forward to uniting efforts to create funds to invest in new technologies," the Bulgarian President said.

Rumen Radev noted that Bulgaria has a flexible approach to the production, storage and transmission of energy resources and they should not only be transported through our country.

"Bulgaria can produce the energy of the future - green hydrogen. We have all the prerequisites to do so in terms of natural resources, scientific potential and technology. Bulgaria can be a leader in our region with modern energy storage systems," he said.

This can be achieved by joining efforts with our partners, Rumen Radev added.
