The Council of Ministers approved Bulgaria's positions and the composition of the Bulgarian delegation to participate in the 79th regular session of the UN General Assembly, which will be led by President Rumen Radev. This was announced by the press service of the Council of Ministers on September 11.

The delegation also includes the caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov, the caretaker Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva, the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the UN in New York Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, Directors-General and Directors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Administration.

The theme for the general debate of the 79th session of the General Assembly is "Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations". The theme encompasses the three pillars of UN action: peace and security, sustainable development and human rights.

In its participation in the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (GA), as well as in the work of the session itself, Bulgaria will continue to be guided by the principles and norms of international law enshrined in the UN Charter and will work for an effective UN that adequately responds to the needs and realities of the contemporary world. In particular, Bulgaria will maintain its priority engagement with initiatives in support of effective multilateralism and rules-based international order, response to climate change, promotion and protection of the rights of women, children and the disadvantaged, etc. Bulgaria, together with its EU partners, will step up its efforts to strengthen the UN, to overcome mistrust in global institutions, to tackle challenges collectively, stressing that multilateral cooperation based on effective and predictable rules brings benefits to all, the government press service said.

Bulgaria's framework positions on the main groups of issues on the agenda of the forthcoming 79th session of the UNGA take into account the EU priorities for the 79th session of the UNGA adopted by the EU Council and reflect Bulgaria's national interests on the topics on the UN agenda.
