President Rumen Radev on November 21 holds consultations with Democratic Bulgaria at the Presidency. He said he is ready to hand over the third mandate after the New Year so that there are no elections in January and February.

"After the October 2 elections I am guided by two main goals. The first is to do the maximum to have a regular government, to give time for dialogue and to give time for the parties to move away from aggressive political rhetoric and to pass important laws. The second important objective is to arrange the consultations and the handing over of mandates so that if we there is a failure and no government is formed, the snap elections are not in the most difficult winter months - January and February. And that requires undoubted delay," the President stressed.

Radev clarified that in case of new early elections, the risk of an even lower turnout is real. He reiterated that he is ready to hand the third mandate after the New Year in order to have elections in March. "But I very much hope it will not come to a third mandate," Rumen Radev added.

The head of state reiterated that along with the most important task - forming a government, the Parliament has other important tasks ahead of it - on urgent laws, on the Recovery and Resilience Plan, on filling constitutionally established bodies that are working with expired mandates.

"There are no small and big parties, no small and big political forces in Parliament because the responsibility is shared. I follow with concern what is happening in the Bulgarian Parliament and it seems to me that this is not what the Bulgarian citizens expect. What we are all waiting for - consolidation to find a successful formula for forming a government to solve the important problems - is going in another direction. In the direction of increasing confrontation, of opposition, of drawing new dividing lines," President Radev said.

Commenting on the chances to form a government, “Democratic Bulgaria” co-chair, Hristo Ivanov, pointed out that such a government could be difficult to form. And arithmetic shows that no less than three parties are needed to form a cabinet.

"A stable government requires such a setting of priorities and the creation of such a construction and atmosphere that would assure the Bulgarian citizens that this is not an unprincipled gathering that is there only to absorb power. It is clear that the Bulgarian political system is permanently heading towards fragmentation. And we cannot expect, neither in this Parliament nor in future Parliaments, the emergence of a single entity that will take all power into itself. The key from now on will always be dialogue and the search for some forms of cooperation," said Hristo Ivanov, co-chair of Democratic Bulgaria.

In his words, there are three main priorities for DB - judicial reform, a clear attitude to security issues in view of the conflict in Ukraine, and a sensible economic course aimed at taking care of those who need help, but also conditions for growth, investment and competitiveness.
