The Embassy of Türkiye in Bulgaria on November 8 issued an official position after Bulgarian border police officer, Petar Bachvarov, was shot dead at the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
"On the occasion of the incident that led to the death of a Bulgarian border policeman at the Turkish-Bulgarian border, the Minister of Interior Mr. Suleyman Soylu in the early hours spoke with his Bulgarian counterpart Mr. Ivan Demerdzhiev to express his condolences.
Additional teams were immediately sent to the border to provide an enhanced presence. Our security forces were mobilised to immediately locate the perpetrators and clarify the incident.
We express our sincere condolences to the Bulgarian people and the officers of the Ministry of Interior," the embassy said in its statement.

Earlier today, Bulgaria’s caretaker Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Kojabashev met with Türkiye's Ambassador to Bulgaria Aylin Sekizkök. Kojabashev raised with the Turkish diplomat the issue of the expected full cooperation by Türkiye in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and called on the Turkish authorities to fulfil their obligations in protecting the security of the border between the two countries.
