Torrential rain and hail the size of walnuts poured over Veliko Turnovo and nearest village of Arbanassi, central Northern Bulgaria, on June 12.
A powerful storm and heavy rain started around 19:00, turning the streets into rivers. According to initial information over 30 trees fell in Veliko Turnovo alone. Streets are closed to traffic, there is damage to many cars. The storm almost took the roof off one of the schools. Fortunately there were no casualties.
Residents report flooded yards. People's fruit and vegetable garden are completely destroyed in some villages where there is no electricity, including in Arbanassi.
The mayor of Veliko Turnovo, Daniel Panov, announced that a crisis management headquarters has been convened to deal with the damage from the disaster. The storm also passed through the town of Levski, where the situation is similar.
