A fire broke out in the early afternoon on July 9 near the road to the oil refinery in the coastal city of Burgas. The fire tore through dry grasses and shrubs about half a kilometer from Lukoil refinery.
Four fire engines and 12 firefighters battled the flames for nearly two hours. Several unauthorised buildings from a roadside encampment were burnt, but people were not injured. They were evacuated in time.
There was a risk of the fire engulfing a methane station near the stadium in the town of Kameno, but after firefighters made fire lines they did not allow the flames to spread and the station remained unharmed.
The fire was put out and did not reach the oil refinery. However, its fence was doused with water several times as a precaution.
