The campaign “Let’s Count the Sparrows” of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds will take place this year on 27 April, Saturday.
By counting sparrows we can establish the numbers of these ‘urban vagabonds’, the habitats they prefer, as well as the dominant species for the country, the organisation said in a message on its website. Sparrow numbers have been declining for the past 10 years and are down by 30%, the society said.
2021: Record number of participants in sparrow counting campaign
Anyone can take part in counting the sparrows they spot outside. It only takes 10 minutes, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds also notes. Registration is required to note the location where one is and the number of sparrows one finds.
The counting will take place between 9.00 and 12.00.
