An elderly woman from Stara Zagora (Southern Bulgaria) fell victim to a telephone scam, the police press centre said on May 31.
According to initial data, she handed over the sum of 6,600 BGN to the phone fraudsters on two consecutive days. Yesterday, the Second District Police Station received a report that a 76-year-old woman had been deceived by an unknown man. Late in the evening of May 29, she received a phone call in which she was told that she had to give 15,000 BGN for an emergency operation for her daughter.
After being misled, the woman left the sum of BGN 1,600 near her home a short time later and gave another BGN 5,000 the following day. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
The previous case of telephone fraud in Stara Zagora was at the end of March. Then an elderly woman gave 9,000 BGN and 500 euro to phone scammers.
