With the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mehmet Sait Uyanik, we discussed the priorities of the cooperation in the field of security, including the protection of the common border, the fight against illegal migration and the flow of passengers through the Bulgarian-Turkish border crossings, caretaker Minister of Interior, Kalin Stoyanov, wrote in his Facebook profile on May 23.
We also discussed the issue of the security of the Bulgarian-Turkish border and I stressed that since September 2023, as a result of all the measures taken by both sides, the situation on our common border has been extremely calm, Stoyanov said.
Ambassador Uyanik and I have also identified measures to ease the freight and passenger traffic through the border crossing points, especially in the context of the approaching summer season and the increase in passenger flows to Turkey, he adds.
In view of the forthcoming elections in Bulgaria on June 9, Turkey is in close cooperation with the Bulgarian consular services to ensure the security of the electoral process, the caretaker Minister of Interior wrote.
