President Radev: Tomorrow at 17:00 I invite the parliamentary groups for consultations on caretaker cabinet appointment

Tomorrow, August 8, at 5 pm I invite the parliamentary groups for consultations on the appointment of a caretaker government, President Rumen Radev said.

At the moment I am holding talks for the post of caretaker Prime Minister, some are outside the country. We have to take every option seriously because they have become extremely few, the head of state added.

In his words, at the moment we are all experiencing the aftershocks of the ill-advised constitutional amendments, which, according to Radev, are having a more destructive effect than the process of their adoption.

"The fact that these changes are already boomeranging back on their creators is not the biggest problem. The problem is they are eroding the foundations of parliamentarism and of key institutions such as the National Assembly, the Bulgarian National Bank, the Bulgarian National Audit Office and the Ombudsman. It should be clear that professionalism can no longer be the guiding principle in appointing the leaders of these important institutions. Each party will now be looking for a person convenient and loyal to it, who will be viewed as a possible future caretaker Prime Minister," he said.

He announced that when he appoints the caretaker government - then he will announce the date for the elections.

"I am not involved in any conspiracies and coups, my style of work has always been clear and open. If somebody was doing the math to remove Raya Nazarian so that they could put in a convenient Speaker of the National Assembly, they have obviously forgotten that I have the final say in this process. I will never appoint this person, because I would never legitimize such a despicable attitude towards Bulgarian parliamentarism," Rumen Radev further said.
