Toshko Yordanov of TISP: We now have proof that the Constitutional Court is politically dominated

“Unfortunately, we already have proof that the Constitutional Court, instead of being independent and distant from everyone, is politically dominated because the part concerning caretaker governments remains,” Toshko Yordanov from "There is Such a People” said on July 26 commenting on the decision of the Constitutional Court invalidating part of the amendments to the Constitution.

Constitutional Court declares most constitutional changes as invalid

In his words, the judges Atanasova and Belazelkov were political appointees exactly in the period when the changes were made.

"This is what worries me the most. We said about the judicial reform when it was done that it was poorly implemented. It is badly done, badly implemented and some of the things are not within the powers of the Ordinary National Assembly. The scariest thing is that the Constitutional Court is now a political body. And poorly done changes to the Constitution are harmful to the whole country. At the moment you see that there is a majority for one of the decisions. And in the other one, which is political, we have the intervention of these two judges, and Atanasova tabled these changes. The assemblage controls the CC. What WCC-DB proposed in the judicial reform was rejected with a shot," Toshko Yordanov added.
