The funds are donated for fellowships at INSAIT (Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology), a special unit at Sofia Unversity
"Google grants 1 million dollars for scholarships to young scientists working at the Bulgarian Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology - INSAIT, which is structured as a special unit of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. This is one of the largest such donations globally of the tech giant in 2024.
"Proof that a world-class scientific product can be and is being created in Bulgaria," said caretaker Minister of Education and Science, Galin Tsokov.
He added it is indicative that companies, which are competitors in different fields, invest in a scientific organization and are confident in the results it achieves
"What INSAIT has achieved in such a short time is impressive and that is why the state will continue to consistently support the institute at Sofia University, and these additional funds are an opportunity to retain the most outstanding Bulgarian talent in the field of exact sciences and give them the opportunity to develop and work at a world-class level from their home - Bulgaria," Minister Tsokov stressed.
The funding will help strengthen the Bulgarian institute's focus in key areas of artificial intelligence, such as large language models, computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning and others.
