Today is a sad day not only for Bulgaria, but for all of us, said Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who arrived for the Holy Mass in memory of His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte on March 16.
"This is a very sad day for all of us. The Patriarch was a beloved brother. We pray to God for the repose of his soul," Patriarch Bartholomew said.
He will preside over the funeral service for Patriarch Neophyte, which begins at 11.00 am.
Saturday is the second day of national mourning declared by the government in honour of the Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte, who passed away of organ failure late on Wednesday, March 13 after a long illness.
A hierarchical divine liturgy was held at 9:30 am, led by Yoan, Metropolitan of Varna.
