political analysts sceptical formation cabinet

Politically, the situation looks very difficult and if we listen carefully to the statements of the main political forces, we should be sceptical about the formation of a cabinet, the political analyst from "Trend" research centre, Dimitar Ganev, told BNT morning programme "The Day Begins" on October 6.

"Whatever is formed, if it is formed at all, will be something different from what we have been used to in the past 20-25 years - a non-partisan cabinet without outstading political faces, with a technocratic look, supported by several parties in Parliament. But all this is provided that some consensus is reached at all. I remain sceptical," Dimitar Ganev stressed, adding that under no circumstances will such Parliament serve a complete 4-year term of office.

According to him, forming a cabinet is possible only with the political party that won the largest share of votes in the October 2 elections. "The rest is a fiction," he said.

According to Yuri Aslanov, a sociologist from AFIS sociological agency, the main message of voters to politicians is that they do not trust any of them and expect them to change.

"The group of voters which chose the 'I don't support anyone' option on the ballot paper and the declining, as a lasting trend, voter turnout are indicative of this," Yuri Aslanov said, noting that the Bulgarian public is experiencing the phenomenon of confused mass consciousness.

In Aslanov's words, only Boyko Borissov (leader of the centre-right GERB-UDF, which won the elections) "has read the electoral lesson correctly" because he was the first to talk about dialogue, consensus, national accord.

"I can't judge how sincere he is, but this is the right reading of the lesson and about compromise. All the others seem to have clung to their donkey stubbornness, apparently unwilling to acknowledge anyone's truth but their own, which is why we are in this situation," Yuri Aslanov clarified.

The likelihood of going to new elections is high, he predicted. If they are produced by the same political leaders and parties with the same names on the lists, "they will finish the trend, which began last year, of voters refusing to follow their political leaders," Yuri Aslanov added.
