The second statue discovered during the excavations in the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica is going on display for the first time in the centre of Sofia, engineer Katya Stoyanova, head of the project "Restoration, conservation and socialisation of Heraclea Sintica said on October 15.
"We have arranged this so that more people can enjoy the ancient art," added Engineer Stoyanova.
The second statue, which has a crack in the thigh area, is expected to be transported to the National Archaeological Museum by the end of October, where it will be restored. The documentation required for the transportation and restoration procedure is currently being prepared. There has been a great deal of interest in the two statues doscovered at the ancient site and the archaeologists from the National Archaeological Museum were the first to express a desire to put the second statue on display.
An agreement has been reached to put the statue on display in the centre of Sofia on the occasion of the Day of the Archaeologist in February 2025, when the restoration of the statue should be completed, explained engineer Katya Stoyanova.
The first statue will be exhibited in the History Museum in the town of Petrich. It is currently being restored by Kitan Kitanov, who believes that the statue is in good condition.
