Expectedly, on December 6, most parliamentary groups confirmed their position that they will not support a government with a GERB-UDF mandate. Although the largest parliamentary group nominated the non-partisan figure and prominent neurosurgeon specialist prof. Nikolai Gabrovski as a prime minister-designate, this did not change their position. “We Continue the Change”, Democratic Bulgaria, Bulgarian Socialist Party and "Vazrazhdane" reiterated that they would not support the draft cabinet with the first mandate.
Officially, there were no talks about a cabinet with the first mandate in Parliament today. The leader of GERB did not hide the hope that such a government is possible, even though they do not have the necessary support.
"We have a few days to use the only chance for a regular government and we must leave the comfort and opportunity to prof. Gabrovski to hold his meetings, talks, calm the passions and try to make a government," GERB leader Boyko Borissov said.
"We Continue the Change", "Democratic Bulgaria", BSP and "Vazrazhdane" did not leave a drop of hope for support, but BSP and "Democratic Bulgaria" are willing out of respect to meet with Prof. Gabrovski.
"We cannot support a GERB government, knowing that Mr Borissov is standing and lurking every minute for every action of the GERB people," said “We Continue the Change” co-chair Kiril Petkov.
"We do not see the conditions to support a government with GERB as a mandate holder. The candidacy of prof. Gabrovski, no matter how respectable figure he may be, I do not see how he could change this," said the chairman of the Democratic Bulgaria group, Hristo Ivanov.
"We will not support a government with the first mandate of GERB and a candidate for prime minister prof. Gabrovski. If they invite us to a meeting, we will go to say it in their eyes," urged the chairman of the BSP for Bulgaria group Kornelia Ninova.
"We cannot support a government proposed by GERB," said Tsoncho Ganev from "Vazrazhdane".
"Bulgaria Ascending" is ready for a conversation and then will decide. MRF refused to comment. And President Radev's harsh criticism of "We Continue the Change" yesterday provoked political reactions. Kiril Petkov listed some of the issues on which he and the President disagreed - the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, Gazprom, and the Bulgarian Development Bank.
"We can't sit and be silent. On the contrary, when we see that something is working against Bulgarian citizens, we will be a clear critic," Petkov said.
"In the past 24 hours we have seen a pretty well synchronised duet between Mr Borissov(GERB leader) and Mr Radev(President), which I don't think surprises the Bulgarian citizens. It has become obvious even to the blind", commented Assen Vassilev of “We Continue the Change”.
Asked if there was any evidence that Borissov and Radev were meeting, Vassilev replied.
BSP leader Kornelia Ninova believes that the president's attitude towards Petkov and Vassilev is not the fruit of trust, but of a carefully thought-out plan. According to her, this plan has failed and the President is in a hurry to save himself from the consequences.
In a press release it notes that Rumen Radev has created "We Continue the Change" with three tasks: to be the new to lead the protests and their wave to overthrow GERB; to smash the BSP as an alternative to GERB; to install them in government and through them to rule the country.
Borissov denied having met with the President and attacked "WE Continue the Change" for the fact that almost all their partners have disowned them.
Borissov: I do not agree with the president, if he vetoes the Electoral Code, we will have a new conversation
"President Radev and I have not seen each other, we have not spoken, we have not coordinated a single action. This is an absolute lie. After President Radev, their main coalition partner and once election winner, ITN, Slavi Trifonov, publicly disowned them and accused them of corruption. Then their other coalition partner - Ms Kornelia Ninova - from the rostrum of the Parliament called them "amateurs" and explained how they had lied. And the most important indicator - how they received nearly 200,000 votes less”, GERB leader commented.
President Radev explained that for him the main thing in the relations is to have no lies.
Lying breaks the society and breaks the political system. There are always reasons, but I insist on principles, I insist on truth in relations, I insist that Bulgaria defends its dignity, its national interest abroad.
Is it possible that the Electoral Code could serve as a bargaining chip for political support was also a topic of comments today. This morning Boyko Borissov surprisingly said that if the President vetoes it, they will support it. He later corrected himself that they would have a new conversation once there was clarity on the issue. The change in his position provoked ironic comments from “We Continue the change”, Democratic Bulgaria and BSP. And whether there will be a veto, Rumen Radev announced:
"My team is working and I hope that you will soon have information on what my decision will be."
The President added that he takes his decisions only on the basis of the laws and the Constitution of the country.
