Council of Ministers approved the additional agreement on military assistance to Ukraine

The Council of Ministers on December 29 adopted a decision approving a draft Additional Agreement between the Ministry of Defence of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on the amendment of the Agreement between the Ministries of Defence of the two countries on the free provision of arms, technical equipment and ammunition, signed on 5 December 2022.

The amendment concerns the deletion of paragraph 3 of Article 1 of the Agreement signed on 5 December, which provided for the possibility to amend the list of items to be provided, which constitutes Annex No 1 to the Agreement, by a decision of the Council of Ministers at the request of the Ukrainian side, only if the Bulgarian side has such an opportunity and it is appropriate for it to do so.

The draft additional agreement takes into account the considerations expressed in the process of discussion of the draft law on ratification of the Agreement of 5 December 2022 in the National Assembly, related to the expediency of allowing the Council of Ministers to take decisions on modification of the list of provision of arms, technical equipment and ammunition.

The provision of follow-on assistance to the Ukrainian side will be made by means of additional agreements to the Agreement of 5 December 2022, which will be subject to ratification by the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The proposed amendment has been agreed with the Ukrainian side, which has given its consent.
