The political party GERB who won most votes in Bulgaria's early parliamentary elections on 5th of October, although it fell short of a majority, is ready to fulfill its responsibility and will seek to form a minority government, said Rumyana Bachvarova after a meeting of GERB’s Executive Committee on 6th of October. She urged the other parties, which will be represented in the new Parliament, to provide reasonable support as regards the main national priorities.
GERB will start negotiations as soon as the final results from the vote are announced. The political parties will be invited to the talks as per their performance in the elections i.e. the second largest will be first, then the third and so on, although most logical it would be to first talk with the Reformist Bloc, which like GERB, is also part of the family of the political centre-right – the European People’s Party.
The larger political force should make less compromises because it represents a larger number of voters, but not to the extent that the compromise causes our own death, commented MEP Tomislav Donchev. He said the GERB would not run away from the responsibility to form a government, but would not take part in the governance at any cost.
