gerb udf may propose cabinet months after misunderstandings wcc

The leader of GERB Boyko Borissov said they will not participate in a coalition with the movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP). He commented that it was possible to propose a cabinet of personalities for a period of 6 months. Hristo Ivanov of “Democratic Bulgaria” dismissed claims that there are disagreements in the “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” coalition.

Ahead of the GERB-UDF meetings with MRF, BSP and "There is Such a People" (TISP) early in the morning on May 4 in Parliament, Boyko Borissov said:

"Yesterday I repeated many times, that we will not make a coalition with BSP and MRF. We said that we will not make a coalition "magnet", a coalition "paper". “We Continue the Change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” were coalition partners with Kornelia Ninova (BSP) and Slavi Trifonov (TISP), then why were there no such questions?".

Borissov reminded that the Parliament was elected a month ago and so far no real work has been done and warned:

"We will all step up and fall into the abyss that is the next elections, and Radev (President) will rule for a long time and is the last salvation of the Bulgarians at the moment. I say this to Hristo Ivanov, Atanas Atanasov and all those who stand aside from the DB, are ashamed of the WCC, but remain silent, rubbing their hands that they may take something in the local government."

Kiril Petkov of WCC reminded on Facebook that WCC-DB have clearly stated that they will not support a government with the first mandate and a mixed cabinet in the second. He clarified that they have proposed a rotating Speaker to get the Parliament working, a legislative and governance programme, as well as a draft cabinet before handing over the first mandate to make it easier for GERB to make a choice. According to Kiril Petkov, GERB now faces several options:

"Option A: GERB can support this government and control the implementation of its programme through the Parliament, and thus be part of the solution for Bulgaria to be a normal European country. Option B: GERB can go back to the years of the backstage, seek support from MRF, BSP and TISP, knowing very well that they have to comply with Mr. Dogan's cold reserve, work closely with Mr. Peevski, discuss their Euro-Atlantic policies with the BSP, and maybe with "Vazrazhdane". This could be called a minority government of GERB with the key support of MRF and help from the other parties. Option C: To opt for elections - realistically, however, this still leads them to plan B with the MRF, it's just that negotiations will take place in the summer, but the balance of power will be fundamentally the same. In this case, the President will simply have had 3 more months to govern."

Kiril Petkov pointed out that the responsibility is now on GERB - whether to move the country forward or to return it to the dark years of corruption and Eurasian rule. And in this situation Delyan Dobrev from GERB further swirled the passions by announcing that Hristo Ivanov from DB holds the key to elect a regular government.

"I have always believed that the natural partner of GERB is not "We Continue the Change", but the natural partner is "Democratic Bulgaria". Even in the previous Parliament I hoped that the President would hand over the mandate to DB, I thought that the chances of having a cabinet in this case were very high. Unfortunately, now DB is in an unnatural coalition with “We Continue the Change” and there is no way to get a mandate, but I hope that in view of the very difficult situation, they will show reason and at least allow talks to seek an opportunity to avoid a sixth election in a row," Dobrev said.

Hristo Ivanov of DB described these allegations as intrigue.

"The key to a government is in the political leaders of all parties and whoever gets the mandate will take responsibility for it," he said.

The situation has become extremely emotional, added Daniel Lorer of WCC and called on all political parties to reduce the degree of feelings and emotions.

Against this backdrop, lawmakers still can't agree on leadership seats on parliamentary committees, which means they can't get down to business and discuss important bills that have been tabled.
