Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has self-initiated an inquiry in connection with information disseminated in the mass media about a computer virus detected in the digital content management and broadcasting system of the public service broadcaster, Bulgarian National Radio.

The subject of the investigation is the establishment of facts and circumstances of a possible computer crime under Chapter Nine "a" of the Special Part of the Criminal Code.
"If the acts were committed with respect to information constituting a state or other secret protected by law or against an information system that is part of a critical infrastructure, the penalty shall be from four to eight years' imprisonment, unless subject to a more severe penalty. If serious consequences have resulted from the act, the punishment shall be from five to twelve years," according to Article 319a of the Criminal Code.
A prosecutor at the Sofia city Prosecutor’s Office immediately ordered an investigation.
The check has been assigned to the chief directorate for combating organised crime – Ministry of Interior, and upon completion, the materials will be reported to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office for assessment of the collected data and the existence of grounds for initiating pre-trial proceedings.
