The Christmas Book Fair in the National Palace of Culture in the capital Sofia is back in its full scale from before the pandemic. Favourite Bulgarian writers gathered for the opening on December 6, and in the coming days they will meet their readers for an autograph session.
More than 150 publishing houses will be presented at the book fair.
"In our impoverished spiritual life, it is precisely the power of books that we need in order to seek not only consolation, but to seek faith, to seek hope, to seek those messages that make us human, human beings, and that tell us that above all we should be kind," said Vice President Iliana Iotova.
"Coming here I think - a mole reached out and said to the mountain - get out of my way, you are in my way, I cannot do my exercise so well. The book fair is actually the mountain, and the mole is all sorts of slanders that nowadays literature is not developing, that people do not read as much as we would like to read," added Zdravka Evtimova, a writer.
The exhibition will run until 11 December.
