MEP Andrey Novakov called on the European Prosecutor's Office to look into the ongoing investigation in Bulgaria and the possible link of the Nexo crypto currency company and the financial donations to the “Yes Bulgaria” party.
This happened on January 18 during a debate of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, dedicated to the protection of the financial interests of the European Union and the fight against fraud.
"Organised crime is not what we remember from the 1990s or from Hollywood movies. Today its leading characters may be neat and educated young people with the right degrees who offer innovative and modern products," Novakov said.
"The shiny office, the cool website, the smiling young faces are just the packaging. Inside there could still be money laundering, financial fraud, circumvention of sanctions against Russia."
Novakov called on the European institutions not to act selectively, to check the case and show that there is no double standard and the interest of the European voter is above everything else.
