The Sofia City Council on March 28 adopted the budget of the capital for 2024.
45 councillors voted in favour, and 15 were against.
The budget was supported by the groups of GERB-UDF, We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria and the councilors who split from “Vazrazhdane”.
Bulgarian Socialist Party, “There Is Such a People", “Vazrazhdane” and Carlos Contrera (a municipal councillor from VMRO), were against the proposed budget.
Shortly after the voting started some of the councillors said that their tablets were not working and the voting was temporarily stopped. Minutes later, voting resumed and so the budget was adopted.
Sofia Municipality's budget for 2024 will be over BGN 2.6 billion.
"It is a record budget for Sofia and has never been this size before. For the first time we have such a democratic budget. Never before have so many proposals of the members of the public and the opposition been included in the preparation of the capital programme," said Boris Bonev from "We Continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria-Save Soia".
