Bourgas residents D.R. and A.F. were detained while trying to smuggle two people, claiming to be Syrians, across the Danube Bridge at Rousse.
According to the prosecution, they hid the illegal passengers in a concealment of the car they were travelling in.
This was announced on January 5 by the District Court in the city of Rousse, which decided to permanently remand the two men in custody.
Although they have claimed that they did not know about the migrants hidden in their car, the District Court in Rousse has confirmed the remand measure for the men from the coastal city of Bourgas.
It was considered that there was a risk that the two would abscond, as one of them, the 46-year-old A.F. had committed this act during a probationary period of a conviction for driving after drug use.
The magistrates pointed out that for such an act, the Criminal Code provides for 1 to 10 years of imprisonment, a fine of BGN 10,000 to BGN 30,000 and confiscation.
