Beach season officially opened on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast

The beach season in Bulgaria was officially opened on June 1. As of today, the beach strips along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are cleaned, equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and lifeguards.

The beach season starts without worries for the concessionaires.

"The weather is warm and there are people on the beaches. Beach sand is cleaned, I hope there will be no accidents," said Kiril Spasov, deputy chairman of the Association of Concessionaires of Sea Beaches.

There are lifeguards at the posts.

"The concessionaires this year introduced numbering of the lifeguard posts. Because many parents come with their children on the beach and when they bathe in the water, when there is a north wind or sea currents, without realising they may go to an adjacent post, and then have difficulty finding their children," explained Dimitar Kolev, senior lifeguard.

The first beachgoers are advised to be careful, because although the water is good enough for bathing, the difference between the temperature of the water and the air is still big enough.”When entering the water, they should enter carefully, with light splashes, so as not to get temperature shocks," said Ivan Georgiev, head of the water rescue service.

"The water is super. 20 degrees, completely normal," said Dimitar Kostadinov.

"The water is great and the sun is great. The beach is always my favourite place," added Radostina Kostadinova.

At the start of the season, another beach in the country - the one in Sunny Beach - received the international recognition for cleanliness - the "Blue Flag".

"Not only the beaches, the water is clean. The first tests were done before the start of the season, the results are excellent at the moment," said Stanimir Georgiev, chairman of the Bulgarian Blue Flag movement.
