At a meeting between President Rumen Radev and representatives of institutions and scientific circles of Bulgaria and China on June 8, it was agreed that a joint team would be formed for the establishment of a Bulgarian-Chinese centre for innovation. The facility will be based in Sofia.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria Dong Xiaojun, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Karina Angelieva, Head of Sofia University, Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, representatives of the Fund of Funds and the scientific community.
The establishment of a Bulgarian-Chinese centre for innovation in Sofia was agreed during the visit of the Bulgarian head of state to China and his meeting with President Xi Jinping in July last year. Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ” is ready to provide the facilities for the establishment of the centre, it became clear at the meeting.
The meeting discussed the possibilities for the development of the project, which provides for the construction of an innovative campus specializing in two areas - information technology and human health sciences.
President Rumen Radev and Ambassador Dong Xiaojun agreed that raising the relations between Bulgaria and China at the level of strategic partnership has significant potential for development in the area of innovation, research and development, and high technology.
The establishment of a Bulgarian-Chinese centre for scientific and technical research and innovation in Sofia will encourage the transfer of technology and knowledge between Europe and China and will increase the competitiveness of both parties, Rumen Radev stressed.
