BNT, Burgas and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) must work as one team in preparing for Eurovision 2027. Dave Goodman, EBU Director of Communications, said this on the Bulgarian National Television programme Denat zapochva (The Day Begins) on Aaugust 14.
He said organising the contest would be a major challenge because of the tight deadlines, but planning for events at the arena in Burgas and across the city was already under way.
Goodman stressed that the EBU team had extensive experience in organising similar events and would support BNT and Burgas with planning and preparations.
Dave Goodman, Director of Communications: “It’s fantastic that we have the opportunity to bring Eurovision back to Bulgaria after approximately 20 years. This is our first time in Bulgaria and in Burgas. We have a very good working relationship with Burgas, with BNT, with the host city, and with the host broadcaster, so we’re looking forward to a fantastic contest hosted by Bulgaria. It’s wonderful that this is the biggest music event, which, as we can see in Burgas, is being embraced with enthusiasm. Burgas will welcome thousands of people from all over the world, so every effort must be made to ensure that next year’s event is truly incredible.”
Goodman said it was important for the contest to reflect the spirit and culture of Bulgaria and for this to be showcased to television audiences and viewers on platforms around the world.
Dave Goodman, Director of Communications: “There’s a lot to be done and time is very short, so the challenge is great, as it is with all such contests. We’re now familiar with the city and the arena in Burgas where the event will take place, and we’re beginning preparations: planning the events inside the arena, organising the stage, and coordinating the various activities that will take place there. But also throughout the entire city, because there will be many other accompanying events. There will also be television broadcasts, and there will be thousands of people.”
Goodman described the upcoming Eurovision as a massive festival that will extend far beyond the TV show itself.
“This isn’t just a festival for the city and the people who will embrace the event—there are also many other events related to the Eurovision family, so this will be a massive festival in the city of Burgas. The city, of course, and BNT will be heavily involved, and we will plan all the other events that will be organised alongside Eurovision next year.”
He assured that the EBU would support BNT and Burgas with its experience in organising international events.
Dave Goodman, Director of Communications: “The collaboration between us—the European Broadcasting Union, BNT, and the city of Burgas—is extremely important. We need to work together as one team. Of course, our team has worked on many such events, so we will guide the process. We will assist with everything that needs to be done in terms of planning and organisation.”
According to Goodman, one of the most important tasks will be for Bulgaria to showcase its culture and atmosphere to an international audience of millions.
