GERB-UDF: We will not participate in attempts to form a government under the second and third mandate

We will not participate in attempts to form a government under the second and third mandate. This was stated in a position to the media from GERB-UDF on March 26.

Parliament voted a resolution that the first mandate to form a government with Mariya Gabriel of GERB as PM has not succeeded

In their words, in the course of the negotiations it became clear that “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” (WCC-DB) were ready to do anything to delay the finalisation of the talks on the first mandate and to reach to a second mandate (to be handed to WCC-DB).

"They (WCC-DB) said so at the beginning of the year, and in the end of the day, the leaked recordings of a national meeting of "We Continue the Change" in May 2023 clearly show that these are deliberate and malicious actions on the part of "We Continue the Change". In fact, these same recordings clearly state that "Mariya Gabriel will be held hostage", the GERB-UDF said.

This continuous pressure on us and this political racketeering had to be put to an end, GERB stressed. And the end was put with dignity by Mariya Gabriel, submitting an application to the Parliament and the parliamentary group of GERB-UDF for the withdrawal of the stated fulfilment of the exploratory mandate for the formation of a government with Mariya Gabriel as a candidate for prime minister, they added.

They note that it is "cynical today to be intimidated with the imperfections of the new Constitution in the part of a caretaker cabinet.

"It was the people who drafted it and who put brutal pressure on all members of the legal affairs committee and on the entire National Assembly to have it adopted by the end of last year. Constitutions should be drafted in such a way that they have a long shelf life, not just from Christmas to Easter," GERB-UDF said.
