"Since August, the price of raw milk in Bulgaria has risen by 37%. Packaging has increased by over 100%, the mark-up in the glass industry is also over 100%," Simeon Prisadashki, deputy chairman of the Association of Dairy Processors, told BNT morning programme “The Day Begins” on January 25.
In his words, Bulgaria is not a factor in raw milk production for the European market. According to Simeon Prisadashki, milk has always been scarce in our country and its price has been influenced by the price of spot milk.
"In the past 6-8 months, there was a trend towards an increase in the price of milk coming into Bulgaria from the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Hungary. The rise in this price and the chronic shortage of raw milk on the Bulgarian market has led to an imbalance in the supply and demand of raw milk," Simeon Prisadashki added.
According to him, currently Bulgarian raw milk producers receive a good price for their milk.
"The trade benefits the most from this situation. Statistics show that the trade mark-up has risen by about 67%," Simeon Prisadashki added.
