Minister of Interior: Drones will monitor the border crossings and the work of border guards

Caretaker Minister of Interior, Ivan Demerdzhiev, expects solid financial support from the European Commission for the protection of the Bulgarian-Turkish border under the solidarity mechanism.

Drones are included in the Ministry of Interior's work to protect the border. They will watch for both illegal crossings and corrupt practices of border police officers.

"There are dozens of detainees. We will equip the border with drones that will also monitor the work of our officers and I assure you that the moment they are operational, corrupt practices will drop drastically. There is no external EU border through which migrants do not enter. Our task is to prevent them from passing through the country as if on parade, as has happened until recently. It is very sad that the process has been like this for a long time, and 110 km of the border stand unsecured," Demerdzhiev said.

In the coming months, the Ministry of Interior expects a further increase in migrantion pressure, which is already at unprecedented levels.

According to Demerdzhiev, the prosecutor's office's data on a drop in pre-trial proceedings against organised crime groups do not correspond to reality.

Demerdzhiev participated in the national meeting of the Ministry of Interior. The meeting was attended by the political and professional leadership of the Ministry of Interior, the directors of chief directorates, District directorates of the MoI and Sofia Directorate of the MoI, as well as of the administrative structures of the ministry.

Analysis of the results of the Ministry of Interior's activities in crime prevention and counteraction, the state of road traffic traumatism in 2022, the organisation of the activities of the Ministry of Interior's structures in the period of preparation for the upcoming April 2 snap elections were the topics discussed at the meeting.
