For nearly 5 hours firefighters, forest officials and volunteers battled a fire in Hisarya area. The fire engulfed more than 30 decares of pine forest.
The fire was reported after 14.00 yesterday, February 19. It burnt in a privately owned pine forest and was in an area which was very difficult to access. 14 firefighters from Karlovo, Hisarya and Plovdiv, 9 employees of the State Forestry in Hisarya and volunteers battled the fire.
The mayors of Krasnovo and Krustevici were also involved in extinguishing the flames, the press centre of the Regional Fire Fighting Service said.
It is assumed that the cause of the fire was human intervention, as previously alert residents saw people carrying out immolation activities in the area.
In the past two weeks alone, firefighters from Hisarya have responded to 20 fire alerts. The District Fire Fighting Service said that reports of stubble fires are increasing.
A penalty notice has been issued to a herdsman from Hisarya area, for unauthorised stubble burning.
In the last two days alone, 43 signals have been received in the district, including two in the Karlovo region - one in Rozino for a dry grass fire and one in the area of Strážhata near Kalofer.
