President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of Rumen Radev. After a one-on-one meeting at the Presidency on February 20, the Bulgarian head of state assured that Bulgaria will continue to support Montenegro on the path of its European integration.

The two strongly condemned the Russian aggression in Ukraine and discussed the signing of agreements on the exchange of military training.

"Bulgaria has always been a strong supporter of Montenegro's European integration and European path. We are confident that we will maintain our leadership role in the integration process and will continue to do so in the future - this is clear from Bulgaria's official assistance programme," Radev said.

He stressed that each of the Western Balkan countries should respect its commitments and it is important that all regional formats and initiatives work, as it is crucial to respect human rights in each country.

“Montenegro is grateful for the support for our European path. We have clearly stated our desire to become part of the EU and NATO. We have achieved one goal and we are now an EU candidate country.

On the issue of Russian aggression, enlargement policy is influenced by various factors. The war has had a sobering effect on the EU and I believe that greater opportunities will open up for our region and so we will become part of the EU family.Bulgaria knows us as a close country. We expect this support to continue. We will reactivate all our reform potential so that Montenegro can be the next first country to join the EU", Milo Đukanović said.

During his visit to the country, the President of Montenegro will also meet with caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev.
