Famous Bulgarian psychologist Ivan Vladimirov-Nav was killed in dispute with neighbour (update)

The famous psychologist, Ivan Vladimirov-Nav, was shot dead in “Cherkovna” street in Sofia. One of his neighbours was arrested for the murder.

Shortly after 10.30 p.m. last night, February 8, the police received a report of a man shot in a residential building on "Cherkovna" street Police and ambulance teams were immediately dispatched to the address and found the 45-year-old man dead.

The murder probably occurred at the front door of the block, where there are still traces of blood.

The 52-year-old alleged perpetrator was arrested at the scene. According to initial information, after an argument between the two neighbours, the older man fired a shot with a legally owned hand gun and fatally wounded the psychologist.

According to unofficial information, the 52-year-old is a former employee of the Ministry of Interior. The Prosecutor's office said he would be charged and detained for 72 hours.

There is information that he himself reported the murder to the Ministry of Interior.

The man detained for the murder of psychologist Ivan Vladimirov was a Ministry of Interior employee 23 years ago, Ministry of Interior Secretary General Petar Todorov said.

Todorov pointed to the reasons that led to the tragic case - strained neighbourly relations that had been reported since 2020.

"There have been 12 such reports filed, and the bulk of these reports are from the perpetrator regarding the actions of the victim's mother. The reports are not of violence but of neighbourly relations - noise, soiling of communal areas and other such matters. Currently, procedural and investigative actions are underway," Todorov said.

The Secretary General pointed out that instructions have been given to the regional directorates and district headquarters to further refine the motives for citizens' requests to acquire weapons. Checks are currently being carried out on weapons already given.
